From Colney Hatch to Princess Park Manor
Friern Barnet's biggest building has had two lives. It opened in 1851 as the Colney Hatch asylum, later Friern Hospital, with one of the longest corridors in the country. After it closed in the 1990s, it was converted into the Princess Park Manor apartments, and we collect from its gates most days.
A few streets away, Friern Barnet Library is a local success story: when the council closed it in 2012, residents occupied it and reopened it as a community library.
The North Circular on the doorstep
The A406 runs along the southern edge of N11, which makes Friern Barnet unusually quick for journeys east and west. London City Airport is straight along the North Circular, and it's the fastest way from here onto the M11 for Stansted. Heading west, the same road takes you to Brent Cross and the M1.
Stations nearby
There's no station called Friern Barnet. The nearest are New Southgate on the Great Northern line and Arnos Grove on the Piccadilly line, both a short drive away. For a mainline train, a Friern Barnet cab straight to King's Cross or Euston is usually simpler than changing.
