Chipping Barnet, on the old road north
Locals still call it Chipping Barnet, from the old word for a market. The town was granted its market charter in the twelfth century, and for hundreds of years coaches heading up the Great North Road changed horses in the inns along the High Street. One of them, the Olde Mitre, is still pouring pints.
Barnet's famous horse fair gave London its rhyming slang for hair, and a stone obelisk at Hadley Highstone marks the Battle of Barnet, fought just north of the town in 1471. When you book a High Barnet taxi with us, your driver is working the same stretch of road the coachmen did.
The hill, the hospital and the station
High Barnet's geography shapes almost every journey. The Underground station sits at the bottom of Barnet Hill, the shops and The Spires are at the top, and Barnet Hospital is out west on Wellhouse Lane. That climb is exactly why so many people here book a cab: with a weekly shop, a suitcase or a hospital bag, the walk up from the station is a slog.

Northern line connections
High Barnet is the terminus of the Northern line's northern branch. Trains run into central London through Camden Town, then split between the Charing Cross and Bank branches, so a direct train to Euston or King's Cross depends on which one you catch. For an early train from a mainline terminus, a Barnet cab straight to the concourse removes the guesswork.

High Barnet is one of the best-placed parts of London for flying. The A1081 takes you up to junction 23 of the M25 at South Mimms in a few minutes, and from there Luton is usually 35 to 45 minutes away and Stansted not much more. Heathrow is a straight run west round the M25.
