The stone on the High Road
Whetstone takes its name from a local legend. Soldiers marching to the Battle of Barnet in 1471 are said to have sharpened their blades on a stone by the road, and a battered stone still sits outside the Griffin pub on the High Road. Whether the story is true or not, the High Road is still the Great North Road, and our drivers use it all day.
Nights out on the High Road
Whetstone's High Road is one of the busiest stretches for eating out in this part of London, with restaurants and bars from Totteridge Lane up towards Oakleigh Road. Pre-book your Whetstone minicab home before you go out, and your driver will be outside when you're ready. It beats waiting at a bus stop at closing time.
Totteridge & Whetstone station
The Northern line station sits at the bottom of Totteridge Lane, one stop south of High Barnet. It's a regular pickup point for commuters coming home with shopping or luggage. If you're travelling on from a mainline terminus, a direct cab to Euston or King's Cross avoids the change at Camden Town.
Swan Lane and the Dollis Valley
Between the houses, Whetstone has more green space than you'd expect: Swan Lane Open Space, and the Dollis Valley Greenwalk following the brook towards Totteridge. For airports, Luton and Heathrow are both reached via the M25, usually in under an hour.
